2009 Season

Well the season is over and it was definitely a rollercoaster.
We won important games and we also had to overcome challenges.

Congratulations to:

Danielle Dempsey
Alex Turriff
Jessica Janes

who were all named to the Atlantic All-Star Team!

Some highlights include a great win against UPEI in strokes, a beautiful stroke by Jessie Janes which took us into penalty strokes against SMU, an excellent tournament for newbie goalie Pip Stewart, numerous shut-outs by Katie Kusher and the addition of new team member Josephine!

New Rule: Self-Pass

Here are links to a video and the International Hockey Federation's website, which provide information about the new self-pass rule that came into affect this spring.

The new rule allows a player to pass to themselves on a free instead of always having to pass to another player. There are specifics to the rule depending on where the free hit is taken so
check out the info so you know all about it!

Summer Workout Info

Hey everyone,

Here are a few workouts you could try out to get back into shape for the upcoming season. Ozo gave these to me last year and I thought people might like some ideas because I know I tend to do the same stuff at the gym.

1. 20-45 minutes cardio

§ 10 squats (added weight when too comfortable)

§ 3 x 10 push ups (wall push ups – focus on how far your feet can get from wall and focus on pushing fast away from wall)

§ 20 BOSU hops

§ 10 minutes skipping * you must look up different routines (Boxer’s skip, 1-foot, backwards, NOT JUST THE LITTLE GIRL SKIP)

§ MBall squats and toss ups, with sumo legs (toes pointing to 11 and 1, not forward)

§ 3 x 20 MBall abs. (normal crunch position, either toss MB to wall/partner, or come up and rotate left then right then down – repeat)

§ 10 MBall push ups – look up online. One hand on ball other on ground – do sloooow this is a balance exercise – take it easy.

Finish with 10 minutes of bike/ skip/ or treadmill walking on incline as high and as fast as you can.

2008 Season Recap

This past season in fall 2008 has been one of the most successful seasons for the team.
We competed in 3 tournaments:

September 20/21 @ DAL/SMU.
September 27/28 @ UNB
October 17/18 @ UPEI

After a great season of a last minute short corner goal courtesy of Julie van der Hoop (which beat SMU), an epic game winning goal by Marley Preston against UNB, a super fantastic rookie party, lots of delicious food at potlucks, hard fought games and of course FUN, we came 2nd in the Atlantic division. Our 2nd place finish is a vast improvement to the 4th place finish from two years ago.

Congratulations is in order for Danielle Dempsey, Jodi Newcombe and Alex Turriff for being named to the All-Star team as well as praise for the Coach of the Year Linda Bonin!

We say farewell to graduating players Katie Fisher, Jodi Newcombe and Julia Howell and our goalie Kat Warder, who sadly returned to Massachusetts in October.

Check out some photos highlighting the season:
